(CLOSED) Surf Shack at La Union

Barangay Urbiztondo in San Juan, La Union is known as an excellent surfing destination. But people often tend to overlook the fact that it is also a haven for low-key yet awesome restaurants. Surf Shack, a bar and restaurant located behind Moonleaf Tea Shop along the highway, is one of them. Surf Shack has a very laid-back setup, which makes it the perfect hangout spot for surfers, beachgoers and casual diners. They only have outdoor seating. Friuli Trattoria

If Maginhawa Street in Quezon City is something you’ve yet to be familiar with, it’s important to figure out where the crowd goes. Granted that you want to discover restaurant gems of your own when you’re just starting out, the vastness of the crowd is a good gauge of whether a restaurant has a good reputation or not. Friuli Tratorria happens to be one of those places that’s guaranteed to be packed on weekdays and especially weekends, and that’s for good reason. The trattoria is a checkered-tablecloth casual restaurant that serves Italian food in big portions with non-exorbitant price tags, which may be why college students and yuppies frequent it […]

If there’s any word to describe Dekada Historic Filipino Cuisine Restaurant, it would be nostalgic. Granted the interiors are contemporary, with the blue walls and carved chairs, the music of Apo Hiking Society playing in the background is enough to send anyone down memory lane. There’s also old memorabilia plastered on the walls and displayed on shelves, like old phones, records, and posters, which are immediate indicators of the type of food Dekada serves – good ol’ Filipino favorites presented in a more contemporary way. Inspired by a trip to Sicily, Chef Mark Buhain trained in Italy and created Cantina Sicilianita as a tribute to the region of Sicily. On top of Cantina Sicilianita’s menu is Arancini, saffron risotto balls stuffed with pancetta ragu that are coated and fried, followed by Pasta Siciliano, Cantina’s rendition of the pesto pasta of basil leaves, pine nuts, olive oil and parmesan cheese with tomatoes for that extra tang.
