Primer’s Picks: Metro Manila’s Chinese Restaurants
Chinese cuisine is a synergistic amalgamation of culinary traditions from both inside and outside the country. With China being a vast land of varying geographies, cultures, and historical backgrounds, it is hard to truly tackle Chinese cuisine without getting a glimpse of the regional cuisines that make up the whole.
We can start by enumerating the eight distinct culinary traditions of China—Cantonese, Hunan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong. We also looked into cities outside the mainland—like Hong Kong and Taiwan—that have developed their own cuisine but still closely identify with Chinese cooking. Chinese cuisine, after all, still has its staples: rice, noodles, and dim sum.
