5 Shops Where You Can Score Fluffy Sponge Cakes
With light and fluffy texture, it’s a no-brainer why sponge cakes are taking over the pastry world these days.
Sponge cakes are crafted by whipping eggs instead of adding yeast—typically served chilled, frosted, dusted with sugar, or plain. They are often characterized as having little to no fat present in their ingredients. Totally a great pair with a cup of coffee or tea!
Here are some of the places where you can score delicious sponge cakes in the Metro:
Grand Castella
Grand Castella is known as one of Taiwan’s best sponge cakes. You’ll find the softest, fluffiest, and jiggliest sponge cakes here, coming in three mouthwatering variants! They have the classic and traditional Original Castella (Php 240), boasting a soft and fluffy cake that melts in your mouth. For cheese lovers, try their Cheese Castella (Php 280), which takes their original castella and adds in layers of melted cheddar cheese. The Floss Castella (Php 290), meanwhile, has flavorful pork floss in their original cake, which makes for a truly delicious meal.
