  • In light of Luzon’s Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), checkpoints have been set in place across the island as a measure to help stop the spread of COVID-19. In Metro Manila alone, checkpoints were established to monitor those coming in and out of the metropolis for the duration of the community quarantine.

To help keep track of checkpoints across Metro Manila, Professor Noriel Christopher Tiglao of the UP National College of Public Administration created a map that shows the quarantine checkpoints for easier access.

Apart from being a Civil Engineer by profession, Tiglao has also conducted research on transportation management and policy with the National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS).

The map was shared by Mahar Lagmay, the Executive Director for Project NOAH and can be accessed by logging onto savetravel.ph.

The said interactive map shows not only the checkpoints but since it is also linked with the Google Traffic Map, it also shows the traffic condition of the roads in the Metro.

The map is particularly helpful to employees of industries that did not suspend operations. Further, this will also help those who are going out on supply runs as they will be kept aware of road conditions especially if they are located near a security checkpoint.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon were placed under ECQ on March 17. Under this order, President Rodrigo Duterte strongly reminds the public to stay at home and observe strict social distancing measures. Because of this, many establishments, except those who offer basic necessities have temporarily closed to keep their employees and the public safe from COVID-19.

The ECQ is set to end on April 12, 2020.
