Baguio City vies to be PH’s first UNESCO creative city
Baguio City is shortlisted in UNESCO’s Creative Cities.
In a report by Rappler, Baguio City is vying to be the 1st city from Philippines to be included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). The UCCN is a network which promotes cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. It was launched in 2004 and now has 116 cities in its roster.

As per the report, Cordillera Regional Director for Tourism Venus Tan mentioned that Baguio City was classified under the Crafts and Folk Arts field. Other fields include Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Music, and Media Arts. The result of the contest will be released in October 2017.

The Creative Cities Network is made up of 54 countries with 116 members. The network also offers “unparalleled opportunities for cities to draw on peer learning processes and collaborative projects in order to fully capitalize on their creative assets and use this as a basis for building sustainable, inclusive, and balanced development in economic, cultural, environmental, and social terms.”
