  • Sharp Plasmacluster Technology Demonstrates Effectiveness in Reducing Airborne Contaminants
  • In a world-first, Sharp Corporation has developed revolutionary Plasmacluster technology, which is proven effective against suspending viruses and microbes that contaminate the air such as novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Plasmacluster technology, which generates and emits positive and negative ions to purify the air, demonstrated how a particle of airborne viruses can be reduced up to 90% when exposed to Plasmacluster ions.

Plasmacluster Ion Technology (PCI) is your defense against the invisible as it deactivates up to 99.97% of airborne threats. Watch the video to find out how. 🤔

Since 2000, Sharp has promoted academic marketing to demonstrate the effectiveness of Plasmacluster technology, working in collaboration with independent third-party research organizations around the world.

In 2004, Sharp demonstrated the effectiveness of Plasmacluster technology against feline or cat coronavirus, a member of the Coronaviridae family. In the following year, they also demonstrated its effectiveness against the original SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV), which caused the outbreak from 2002 to 2003 and genetically similar to the SARS-CoV-2.

This overall achievement was accomplished in collaboration with Professor Jiro Yasuda of the National Research Center for the Control and Prevention of Infectious Diseases/Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, Japanese Society for Virology Board member Professor Asuka Nanbo, and Professor Hironori Yoshiyama of the Department of Microbiology, and Shimane University Faculty of Medicine.

And with the recent outbreak of COVID-19 caused by a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), it showed an urgent need for immediate countermeasures to be taken across a wide range of fields, thus Sharp’s range of Plasmacluster technology products.

    Plasmacluster Technology on Sharp Products

Sharp’s Plasmacluster technology works in three stages. It generates and emits the same positive and negative ions found in nature and after purifying the air, the ions turn to water and return to the air.

The said technology brings a bunch of benefits proven and tested from various researches, such as it eliminates airborne mold and suppresses the activity of airborne viruses, bacteria, and allergens.

Not only does it break down adhering odors in the air but Plasmacluster ions also reduce static electricity, preventing pollen and airborne dust from clinging to curtains, clothing, and other surfaces at home.

Lastly, it has a beautifying benefit from water molecules produced by PCI that adheres to the surface of the skin and forms a coating to retain the moisture of the skin.

Available in the market today, Sharp’s innovative Plasmacluster technology is a game-changer in bringing safety and comfort in one’s home during this time of the pandemic. The technology is not only contained in Sharp’s air purifier appliances but also in air conditioner units, refrigerators, and ion generators, with each having specific purposes.
