A trip to Japan wouldn’t be complete without having to try at least one authentic ramen restaurant. It wouldn’t be difficult, though, as ramen shops are found at every corner. In Hakodate and, perhaps in the whole Hokkaido region, one of the most popular is Ajisai. It’s best known for its shio or salt-based ramen (¥750). It has a light yet flavorful and clear salt broth. If you’re the adventurous type and willing to try something different, we suggest the ikazumi or squid ramen (¥1,280). Ajisai can only be found in Hakodate, so it’s definitely a must-try.
