  • NatGeo says the Philippines deserves more travelers.

Been dreaming of a backpacking trip across Asia? Add the Philippines to your bucket list! Just recently, international science and history magazine National Geographic listed the Philippines as one of the 10 places in the world that deserve more travelers.

In an article by Tara Isabella Burton, she mentioned that the Philippines remains safe for travelers to visit. “The Philippines remains no less safe for travelers than many other destinations worldwide, and the country (PH)—so economically reliant on tourist trade–needs visitors.”

Despite the terrorist attacks in the past months, Duterte’s drug war, and the province of Sulu, Burton enumerated the must-see tourist destinations in the Philippines for every traveler. Some of these mentioned are Philippines’ white beaches and UNESCO World Heritage Site Banaue Rice Terraces in the Northern part of the Luzon island. She also mentioned the culture of Banaue in Ifugao, as well as things to do in the place such as spending the night in traditional Ifugao dwellings and hiking.

Other Asian countries included in the NatGeo list include Mongolia, Turkey, and Kyrgyzstan. To end her piece, Burton mentioned checking government travel advisories and local news before traveling. “These ten destinations deserve the attention, and investment of both time and money, of travelers willing to take a bit of risk and go the extra mile,” ended Burton.
