Founded by Romy Sia in 2010, Wine Story began with an unexpected discovery a year earlier. During Sia’s annual trip to Anaheim, California for Healthy Options in March 2009, he came across The Billionaire’s Vinegar at a Barnes & Noble in Newport Beach.
The book tells the story of a bottle of 1787 Château Lafite Rothschild, supposedly owned by Thomas Jefferson, that resurfaced in a Paris cellar around two centuries later. A year after reading it, he opened the first Wine Story at Shangri-La Plaza in Ortigas, creating a concept that helps guests understand the story behind every bottle.

Wine Story is also the first Approved Programme Provider in the Philippines of WSET qualifications, regarded as a global benchmark for wine and spirits education.
The Ortigas branch specializes in French wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne. At the center of the store is a temperature-controlled, illuminated all-glass cellar, where bottles are prominently displayed while being kept under proper storage conditions.

A key part of Wine Story’s approach is provenance. Its wines are sourced directly from Bordeaux châteaux and reputable wine merchants in London. Wine Story does not purchase from third parties, private collectors, or sources in Asia as part of its efforts to guarantee authenticity.

Storage is also carefully monitored. From the moment the wines leave Bordeaux until they arrive and are displayed at Wine Story, temperatures are maintained between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius to help preserve their quality.
The shop also carries a selection of mature vintages aged 20 years and older, along with large-format bottles ranging from 1.5 liters to 18 liters.

Most wines are available by the bottle, while wines by the glass are offered daily for guests who want a guided tasting experience that highlights the story and character of each wine. On selected occasions, Wine Story also offers Tasting Flights, allowing guests to compare different labels and flavor profiles.
These experiences are guided by Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)-certified staff, also known as Wine Angels, who assist guests in choosing wines based on their preferences, food pairings, and level of wine knowledge.
Wine Story also offers Magnum, Imperial, and Royal membership tiers, with privileges that include bottle-keep services in central and private cellars
The wine selection may be paired with charcuterie boards, artisanal cheeses, duck confit, and certified Angus beef ribeye.

Among its food pairing options is the Plateau de Fromage, a cheese selection that may be enjoyed with white wine. These small plates are designed to complement and bring out the characteristics of each glass.

For private gatherings, the Imperial Room may be arranged to seat around 12 to 14 guests and can accommodate up to 20 guests. The space is available for business meetings, intimate celebrations, after-work gatherings, private wine tastings, classes, and other functions.

Aside from its Shangri-La Plaza branch in Ortigas, Wine Story also has a location at One Uptown Residence along 36th Street in BGC, Taguig. Designed by a Paris-based architect, Wine Story Uptown brings elements inspired by a Bordeaux vineyard, château, and cellar to Manila, creating an immersive environment for discovering and enjoying wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne.
The BGC location is described by Wine Story as the world’s first and only Bordeaux theme park and offers a full dining menu alongside private spaces such as the Royal Lounge for eight guests and the Vineyard Lounge for up to 30 guests.
With its curated French wine selection, verified provenance, controlled storage, mature vintages, guided tastings, food pairings, private rooms, and wine education programs, Wine Story in Ortigas offers both new and experienced wine enthusiasts different ways to discover the stories behind each bottle.
