    The Philippines was under the Spanish rule for 666 years. And Intramuros in Manila was the center of politics, military and religion during that period. A Latin word that means “within the walls,” Intramuros was founded by Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1571 after he and his army won a war over land settlement against the Islamic natives.

    Rizal Shrine
    The Rizal Shrine in Fort Santiago was built in honor of the Philippine’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

    If you walk down southeast of General Luna Street from San Agustin Church, you will find a 3-storey souvenir shop which is the largest in Intramuros.

    One of the shops located at the 400-year-old chamber inside The Fort Santiago is The Manila Collectible Co. Opened in 2013, this souvenir shop offers a wide range of unique items which are from indigenous groups, Filipino artists and local brands.
