  • PH Temporarily Bans Flights from UK Starting December 24 to 31
  • The Philippines temporarily banned flights from the United Kingdom starting December 24 to 31 due to recent concerns over the spread of a new SARS-COV-2 strain, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is currently emerging in the UK.

Following this, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Resolution No. 90 as part of efforts to prevent the new variant of SARS-COV-2 from entering the country.

The said resolution reads that “the implementation of proactive measures is necessary to ensure the utmost protection of the health of the Filipino people.”

Under the IATF-EID’s Resolution No. 90, all passengers who have been to the UK within 14 days immediately preceding arrival in the Philippines, are temporarily restricted from entering the country in the same period of time. This includes those merely in transit to the country.

However, passengers who are already in transit from the UK and all those who have been to the UK within the 14 days immediately preceding arrival in the Philippines that will arrive before 12:01 a.m. of December 24 will not be restricted to enter the country but will be required to undergo stricter quarantine and testing protocols.

The quarantine protocols include an absolute 14-day quarantine observation at the Athlete’s Village in the New Clark City and a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result.

On the other hand, outbound travel to the UK will also be subjected to the exit protocols of both countries.
