Create Philippines Makes Its Way to the Metro
With a theme of “Developing an International Market for Filipino Creative Content and Creative Services”, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched Create Philippines last October 20, 2017 at the HallOne, ITC Center, Pasay City as an event for creative industries.
Create Philippines is the country’s very first international creative industry trade event. The 3-day event showcased the different sectors of the Philippine creative industry as one of the key drivers for the country’s own economic growth.
Before the event started, there were a lot of delegates excitingly waiting in line outside the event venue. The opening of the said event started with welcoming remarks from the project director of Create Philippines herself, Ms. Doris Gacho, followed by a keynote speech given by Senator Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV with regards to the empowerment of the creative sector in the country. Mr. Paolo Mercado, the president of the Creative Economies Council of the Philippines (CECP) on the other hand gave a short talk on how to build a competitive Philippine Creative economy.
The event also highlighted the success stories of Ms. Lucille Tenazas, founder of Tenazas Design NYC; Mr. Eric Cruz, executive director of AKQA Shanghai and; Mr. Armand Serrano, visual development artist of the Walt Disney Animation Studio.
Create Philippines featured some of the best and brightest individuals in the Philippine creative scene in being a development platform for artists, professionals, creative creators, and developers can come together and showcase their work and vie for business opportunities.
Through Create Philippines, it will help in streamlining the nation’s long-term goal of developing creative cities in the Philippines under the UNESCO creative cities network; it will accelerate the roadmap for the development of the country’s creative industry and; will strengthen a unified voice from various industries and sectors.
