  • Spontaneous, impromptu, and outrageously funny – This is Improv.

The night of May 21, 2015 was a night brimming with bursts of laughs and giggles as Silly People’s Improv Theater (SPIT) and Switch Improv with special guest stars Phil and James Younghusband amused everyone at Game On held at Puñta Manila. The event was the kickoff of their fundraising series for the Manila Improv Festival 2015 that will happen this whole month of July.

FOR LETTER E, EMOTIONS! SPIT performs a song drawn from the audience’s ideas of things people play.

The show started at 9PM with SPIT welcoming everyone with a hilarious song number featuring things that night’s audience play with. A set from Switch Improv shortly followed, entertaining the crowd with fun games.

Everyone was delighted and participated in co-creating the characters and dialogue of the scenes and the story with the actors in real time. Echoes of laughter bounced across the walls of the restaurant as the audience sat back, relaxed, enjoyed their free drink and, of course, laughed their hearts out to the hilarious performances.

After a short break, SPIT hopped on the stage and disappointed no one, showing everyone why they are the premiere Improv group in the country and that they are truly are professionals in their brand of comedy.

They started their act with some old school rapping and some old school dance moves that really got the audience hyped and into the groove. Who would think that they could make a great song about Nutribun from random words the audience have just thought of?

SPIT FOUNDER GABE MERCADO sings On My Own at the most random of moments, drawing laughter from everyone.

Finally, the two Younghusband brothers climbed onstage and charmed everyone, not only by their good looks, but also by the funny stories they shared when they were growing up. James shared his experience with penguins while Phil shared about chickenpox – James’ chickenpox.

JAMES’ CHICKENPOX. “He got chickenpox and he was ‘kawawa’ (pitiful) back then,” Phil chuckled.

Also another highlight of the show: The Oracle, a three-headed fortune teller (comprised by three SPIT members in a very large shirt with three head holes) who answered the audience’s questions on the spot about love, life and other random things in a very funny way by completing their sentences one word per head at a time. Truly an amazing act to see!

CAPTION: THREE HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE. The Oracle “sees” your future and tells you all about it one word per head at a time.

Game On was a very successful show and SPIT hopes to see many more laughter-seekers come over and join not only the Manila Improv Festival 2015, but also the other fundraising gigs that will be happening all over the metro. It is exciting to know that we can watch out for more workshops, shows, and events that promise to showcase outstanding performances, fascinating improv acts, and a great reason to have a nice, good laugh.
