    Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics

Inspired by her father’s dream, USA-Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist and Philippine Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian Juvy Martillos-Sy eventually developed a passion for the field of Nutrition and Dietetics, especially after learning how certain nutrient deficiency and toxicity can affect a person’s overall health.

She worked for six years as a Nutritionist-Dietitian at St. Luke’s Medical Center and enhanced her skills and competencies as a Clinician at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in Saudi Arabia for eight years, specializing in Neonatal Nutrition, Pediatric Nutrition, and Renal Nutrition.

To date, she is the Chief Nutritionist-Dietitian at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, where she actively empowers nutrition and dietetic professionals both from inside and outside of the institution. She is a strong collaborator in the healthcare team by providing medical nutrition therapy to specific patient groups such as pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics who are well and critically-ill patients.

Her typical day at work involves the implementation of nutrition care process by nutrition assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, and evaluation of the status of nutritionally at-risk patients, and designing individualized diet plan according to different age groups. Compliance and compromise are really important for her, so she takes time engaging with patients and care givers to ensure successful diet implementation.

Moreover, Ms. Martillos-Sy had an international appointment as a member of Education Professional and Development Committee of American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and has taken part nationally in preparing the Hospital Nutrition-Dietetics Management Practice Guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH) and PRC.
