  • Groundbreaking of MRT-LRT common station to start this September
  • After years of delay, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the common station connecting two of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) lines 3 and 7, and Light Rail Transit (LRT) line1 will finally be on September 29, making commutes to the north a lot easier.

According to BusinessWorld, the P2.8 billion project was first proposed back in 2009 but due to the change of location of where the common station will be, the construction has been delayed.

The common station was originally set to be built near SM North EDSA, but was moved in front of the Ayala-owned Trinoma mall by the then Department of Transportation and Communications in 2014. This caused SM Prime Holdings to sue the government for breaching the contract and a temporary restraining order was issued by the Supreme Court delaying the construction.

In an article posted by GMA, Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade stated that the groundbreaking ceremony will be held on September 29. The 13,700- square meter project is set to start its construction on December and will be expected to be completed by April of 2019.

The common station will link LRT-1, MRT-3 and MRT-7 which is currently under-construction from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan and is expected to be completed on the final quarter of 2019.
