  • Guests were sent to a place called Sugarlandia last September 6, 2017 at The Pineapple Lab as Don Papa Rum, the country’s only premium aged small batch rum, celebrated its 5th year anniversary.

    Bleeding Heart Rum Company (BHRC), the minds behind the premium rum, gave everyone a night to remember with masks, food, art, and, of course, a taste of what Don Papa Rum had to offer.

    Guests were treated to a performance from one-man-band Hoochie Choochie Mikkie and a dance from Fundacion Central Flamenco, all of which were inspired by the mystical land Don Papa sought to introduce that night: Sugarlandia.

    HOST FOR THE NIGHT. Monica Llamas Garcia is joined by Andrew Garcia, two of the minds behind the Bleeding Heart Rum Company.

    Inspired by the island of Negros, Sugarlandia is a magical realist world where things were never what they seem. The night was all about celebrating this, with taste, aroma, sight, sound, and movement all stemming from Sugarlandia.

    BEHIND THE STICK. Kathryn Eckstein (left) and Enzo Lim (middle) were behind the stick all night, serving people cocktails made from Don Papa Rum, as well as a special drink aptly named “The Ritual”.

    The highlight of the night, however, was the drinking of several cocktails by Don Papa Rum’s mixologists Enzo Lim and Kathryn Eckstein, including something aptly called “The Ritual”.

    Pair that up with great food from Chef Laudico and a mask-making activity and you have a combination that had guests enjoying well into the night.

    Don Papa also paid tribute to the winners and finalists of the annual Don Papa Art Competition as their works were featured in a wall of fame exhibition. Together with the Don Papa tree, it symbolized the continuous growth and expansion of the brand while still retaining its roots.

    “When we launched in 2012, we introduced Papa Isio as the inspiration behind Don Papa Rum. We are now introducing the world of Sugarlandia to those who have shared this journey with us since our humble beginnings,” said Stephen Carroll, founder of BHRC.

    Capping off the night was BHRC announcing several events for the rest of the year, including a release of Don Papa Rum’s latest offering, the Rare Cask, and the 3rd Annual Don Papa Art Competition. BHRC will also be having its first Don Papa Cocktail Competition in the Philippines, details of which will come soon enough.
