In Dumaguete City, 4 fishermen from Tañon Strait were honored as Ocean Heroes. They were awarded for championing conservation, sustainable fisheries, coastal law enforcement in the Visayas.
Aside from them, recognition was also given to Tañon Strait Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), who reached out for social, environmental and economic gains for coastal communities.
Virgilio Aviso, Renato Buenavaje, Jocelyn Moya-Herkdle, and Mariano Sarcol all stood out from dozens of candidates for their commitment to protecting Tañon Strait, a 161-kilometer strip apportioning the provinces of Cebu and Negros Island.
