To those who are looking for what’s up and coming in your theaters this month, here’s the rundown of films which will be shown nationwide for the month of May.

Gifted

This drama film revolves around Frank Adler, a man who’s raising his young mathematical genius niece, Mary. A custody battle ensues when Frank’s mother learns of Mary’s abilities, planning to separate the two from each other.
Luck at First Sight
Directed by: Dan Villegas
Starring: Jericho Rosales and Bela Padilla
The Circle
Directed by James Ponsoldt
Starring: Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, and John Boyega
Watson plays a young tech worker who gets the job at a tech company called the Circle. As she rises up the company ladder, she finds out about a situation that may affect not only her life and her family’s, but also of the future of humanity.

Bliss
Directed by: Jerrold Tarog
Starring: Iza Calzado, Ian Veneracion, and TJ Trinidad
Bliss narrates the story of 30-year old used-to-be celebrity. She decides to produce her own film to gain respect in the industry, but all of her plans crash down on her after she gets involved in an accident, crippling her. She begins to lose her sanity after encountering people who made her life a nightmare.
Our Mighty Yaya
Directed by: Jose Javier Reyes
Starring: Ai-ai Dela Alas, Zoren Legaspi, Megan Young, and Sofia Andres
This film revolves around Vangie, a woman from the province, and her life when she was hired as a nanny for a rich family in Manila.
Alien: Covenant
Directed by: Ridley Scott
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterstone, and James Franco
Alien: Covenant revolves around a crew for the colony ship Covenant who finds an uncharted paradise who they soon realize is a world where the original David and other monstrous creatures live.
The Bride
Directed by: Svytoslav Podgayevsky
Starring: Victoria Agalakova, Vyacheslav Cherpuchenko, Aleksandra Rebenok
The Bride tells two stories. First, the narrative of a photographer who makes a living out of taking photos of deceased family members. Second, the narrative of Nastya and her fiancé who travels to his family home where they want to get married. As the ceremony grows closer, Nastya begins to see strange and disturbing visions.

Colossal

Colossal revolves around Gloria who moves back to her hometown after being kicked out by her boyfriend in New York. When she learns about a creature invading and destroying Seoul in South Korea, she realizes that she is somehow connected to everything that’s happening.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

Greg Heffley and his brother Rodrick convinces their family to go on a road trupto Meemaw’s 90th birthday party, but they are actually scheming to go to a video gaming convention.
Extortion

Extortion tells the story of a family who goes on to a Caribbean vacation, but this vacation immediately takes a turn and the father finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game to rescue his wife and son from a fisherman who abducted them.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Directed by: Guy Ritchie
Starring: Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Djimon Housou
The story revolves around the young Arthur who learns that he is royal until he pulls the sword of Excalibur from a stone. He faces the dilemma of when he will assume his power, and on how he will face down his demons.

Manhattan Night is a mystery and crime film which narrates the story of a woman who hires a crime reporter to investigate on the murder of her husband.

Everything, Everything

Starring: Amandla Stenberg, Nick Robinson, and Anika Noni Rose
Everything, Everything is a girl who doesn’t go out of her house, believing she is allergic to the world. Everything changes when she falls in love with the boy who has just moved in the neighbourhood.

Baywatch

This film, based on the television series of the same name, is about two lifeguards who – though they are very different in personalities – come together to stop a mastermind’s drug trafficking operation.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Starring: Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Brendon Thwaites
Captain Jack Sparrow, pursued by people who escaped the Devil’s Triangle, seeks the Trident of Poseidon which grants the owner of control over the seas, something that would help him defeat Armando Salazar, an old nemesis.
