Makati’s walkway to provide a safer walk for the pedestrians
Makati’s walkway is now known to be the country’s longest elevated walkway, following the inauguration of the extension connecting V.A Rufino to Salcedo Village.
The 1,100 meter De La Rosa Elevated Walkway has served pedestrians and commuters a safer and more comfortable way to go from Greenbelt to Makati Medical Center without worrying about the sun and/or the rain.
The latest project extended the walkway by 305 meters more.
Aside from the elevated walkways, The Makati Commercial Estate Association (MaCEA) also envisions of creating tri-level pedestrian walkways composed of underground passageways, on-grade covered sidewalks, and elevated walkways. This is to reduce the amount of motorists on the streets and encourage the people to consider and healthier way to get to and from their destinations.
“Ultimately, it will encourage motorists to leave their cars and join the pedestrians on short trips to the commercial center and back, which is the core objective of the pedestrianization program,” MaCEA president David Balangue said.
MaCEA is also enhancing sidewalks along V.A. Rufino.
MaCEA will also be implementing sidewalk enhancements along the streets of V.A. Rufino, Valero and De La Rosa. They are also planning to construct pedestrian crossings and covered walkways along Ayala and Gil Puyat. They will also be redeveloping and upgrading the facilities in Legazpi Village and Washington Sycip parks.
