  • What’s new at Soga Miga at Molito, Alabang
  • When we first visited Soga Miga at the Molito Commercial Complex last year, it was already drawing a lot of attention as the district’s only restaurant that served authentic Korean dishes. We revisited the restaurant to see what has changed since we last visited.

Soga Miga has kept its rustic looks with tables you’d often see in restaurants in Korea. People still enjoy the same Korean goodness they did when it opened in 2007. Nowadays, there are new things on the menu that you should be on the look-out for.

     ox-tongue-raw

THIS IS HOW THEY START. Thinly sliced ox tongues: it may not sound appetizing, but just you wait.

    ox-tongue

A HOW-TO ON GRILLING OX TONGUE. they recommend cooking it until it’s well done, but not too crispy. Dip it in their spicy sauce, or lather a small amount onto the slice and wrap it up in a sesame leaf for a bit more crunch.

One of their latest additions is their char-grilled ox tongue. At only P880 per order, you’ll get a plate full of thinly sliced ox tongue which you can cook in their table grill. For best results, grill it until it’s well done but not crispy. You’ll also get a plate of Chinese cabbage and sesame leaves to warp the ox tongue in for an even more delicious bite.

    spicy-beef

SPICY, VERY SPICY. It was the spiciest among the new dishes, but it could not hide how tender the beef was.

Another addition to their growing menu is the Spicy Beef Stew (P350). Made with the freshest ingredients (including US and Japanese-grade beef), this spicy soup will surely open up your senses. Fair warning: it may be spicier than you’d expect. You can ask them to tone it down, though.

    healthy-hot-stone-rice

THE OWNER’S FAVORITE. Healthy Hot Stone Rice is something they recently added to their menu. It helps to get rid of all that spiciness after a hearty meal. Careful with how hot it is, though.

A favorite of the owner herself, the Healthy Hot Stone Rice (P350) is quite the treat. It’s a simple mix of brown, black, and barley rice, it’s made even healthier with a number of beans, dates, and ginseng added on top of the rice.

The hot stone bowl keeps it warm throughout your meal. It’s a two-in-one meal as it doubles as an after-meal rice soup! Once you’ve served the rice, pour in some water and put the lid back on. After your meal, just open the lid, scrape off the burnt rice and serve! You’d be surprised how hot it is.

    mixed-sausage

FROM KOREA TO THE PHILIPPINES. It’s something Koreans close to the army base came up with after they got sausages as a present from US Armed Forces.

The new star of the show, however, is the Mixed Sausage Stew. Sometimes called “military stew”, it got its name from the number of different sausages mixed in with spicy kimchi and a bit of instant noodles. The name “military stew”, on the other hand, was given because sausages used in the stew came from the US Armed Forces stationed in South Korea.

For a taste of these and other new dishes on their menu, visit Soga Miga at the Molito Commercial Complex, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. They’re open from 11:00 am – 11:00 pm, Monday to Saturday and from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sunday.
