    The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival has got avid movie-goers to see the best films produced by up and coming talented filmmakers in the Philippine film industry. Currently in its 12th run, it still aims to produce local’s best depicting reality through cinematic visuals which promotes Filipino art when it comes to filmmaking. The event is held every year in July to August at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City.

    Probably unknown to many, aside from the films showcased during the whole festival, there are so much more to see during this week-long festival everyone will enjoy as well. Here are some of the things you might have not known about that’s happening at Cinemalaya:

    1. Cinemalaya Exhibit

    The Cinemalaya Exhibit is held at the Bulwagang Carlos V. Francisco (Little Theater Lobby) which puts various Cinemalaya memorabilia on display during the course of its run. Some of the things you may see here are previous film posters, media IDs, former trophies, and other items used in the duration of the annual festival. There is also a social media booth where you can see a feed of tweets and online content related to #Cinemalaya2016. Admission for the exhibit is free.

    2. Archivo 

    The CCP Shop by Archivo founded in 1984 is a gallery of collectibles where you can find a display of various film posters, books, CDs and DVD copies, vinyl records, and other gift items for the art-loving film buffs. Here, you can just leisurely unwind with a cup of coffee as you browse through tangible and unique collections of the film industry. The shop opens at 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, from Tuesdays til Sunday.

    3. The Samsung Screening Lounge

    Want to watch the movie privately with your friends? Here’s one good news! This year, Cinemalaya is partnering with Samsung to bring Samsung Screening Lounge, where a group of five can watch their own choice of competing film privately! This lounge is perfect for friends and families who want to watch the films comfortably! Tickets are P1,500 inclusive of free popcorn. You can also bring food and drinks here for a fun and convenient watch.

    4. Food stalls and café

    No need to cross the street to buy food and drinks! On the right side of the main entrance of CCP, you can see various food stalls where you can buy rice meals, snacks, and refreshing drinks to satisfy your appetite! If you plan to stay there to watch all day, this spot is the best place to take a break and eat.

    Beside the Cinemalaya Exhibit, you will see a lounge where one can also have some light snacks and coffee. This bright and spacious lounge is perfect for casual conversations with fellow film buffs. Who knows, maybe you can chance upon your favorite film director and have a conversation with him right away? Sounds fun, right.

    5. Mini exhibit at the Library

    The CCP also has its own library where one can find a bunch of reference materials related to Philippine history, arts, culture, and humanities. Priceless collection of books, audio materials, and other documents can be accessed at the library which can be very helpful for students, academic professionals, and even foreign nationals who want to learn more about the Philippine culture. The library is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with no noon break.

    6. Souvenir shop

    If you wish to bring home something that will remind you of your Cinemalaya festival experience, you can always buy yourself a souvenir at this souvenir shop located the ground floor of the CCP. Here, they sell merchandise such as t-shirts, books, bags, pins, umbrellas, and other accessories printed with artistic typographies. Buy one and support the local industry!
