  • Teppanyaki Takes Center Stage at Akira
  • The fire and flair of teppanyaki is the highlight of the dining experience at Akira: The Art of Sushi and Teppanyaki, reintroducing the art of teppanyaki to the growing market of sophisticated diners in the metro.

Like the mythical firebenders, Akira’s teppanyaki chefs are trained to show their mastery of the flame, not just to cook the food but to win the guests over as well, turning the personal dining experience into an art form.

Teppanyaki refers to the Japanese style of cooking food over an iron griddle or a teppan. Preparations are as important as the meal itself, and the freshest ingredients – quality meats, vegetables and seasonings – are intricately prepared before the guest. The iron grills on the teppan tables are fired up, and diners can sit comfortably as the chefs engage them through the process.

The guests are guided through the options, allowing them to determine the variety and amount of seasoning and oil, as well as the doneness of the meat, to ensure the food is cooked to their taste. This is followed by a symphony of tools as the chefs work with skilled precision, cutting, stirring and seasoning the food before serving the culinary masterpiece off the grill.

Akira ramps up its teppanyaki menu with a wide range of options for teppanyaki diners, all served with miso soup, yasai and seared vegetables: Steak and Lobster Teppan, Mixed Seafood Teppan, All Meat Teppan, Mixed Mushrooms and Vegetables Teppan, and Steak and Prawns.

The restaurant offers different meat options, including the best quality Japanese Wagyu available in the local market, in the premium A3 and A4 grades.

Akira’s teppanyaki is served with its signature 3-way sauce: ponzu for seafood, honey miso mustard for chicken, and steak sauce.

To complement their teppanyaki, guests can enjoy Akira’s aburi sushi selection, partially torched nigiri sushi prepared with ground pepper and teriyaki sauce. Available in Salmon, Tuna, and Unagi variants, the aburi is served with gari (ginger) and wasabi.

Cap off the meal with a unique dessert: Matcha Crepe with Orange Flambé & Vanilla Ice Cream. The crepe is distinctly flavored with finely milled Japanese green tea, served with vanilla ice cream and topped with orange slices splashed with liquor then briefly set alight.

Akira also showcases authentic Japanese dishes including ramen, sushi and sashimi, tempura, tonkatsu and bentos, as well as a selection of Japanese liquor.

From February 23 until March 31, 2015, groups can enjoy a full meal at Akira with the 3+1 Bento promo, where order of any three bento boxes gets one FREE bento box (except the Gindara bento). Promo runs at Akira Branches in Shangri-La mall and Robinsons Magnolia mall; and cannot be availed in conjunction with any other promo or discount.

All of these are served up against the restaurant’s postmodern classic design, a marriage of traditional and contemporary Japanese elements:  wooden tables and chairs, prints of prominent Japanese icons, abstract tree branch patterns on the walls, shelves of hardcover classics and small figurines, and other Japanese curios.

With great food and entertainment in one, Akira is ideal for celebrations with friends and family. Akira branches are located at the 5th level, East Wing, Shangri-La Plaza mall, Shaw Blvd. cor EDSA, Mandaluyong City; Upper Ground, Robinsons Magnolia, Quezon City (Beside Dona Hemady Street) and Alphaland Makati Place, Malugay St. cor.
