Holy Week Activities: Black Saturday
Black Saturday or Sabado de Gloria is a mourning-like day as it is where Jesus is still lying in the tomb. Preparations are also made for the Easter Vigil where Gloria is sung for the first time since Maundy Thursday. The church also holds a Black Saturday Mass where rice, cars, vehicles and other objects are blessed. Some Parishes also maintain a custom of hanging Judas Iscariot in effigy for his act of betrayal. They then would blow it up with firecrackers.
At the night of the Black Saturday, some prepare a feast and also stock up on some firecrackers while waiting for the clock to strike 12 and celebrate Easter, it is called Salubong.
