Holy Week Activities: Good Friday
Good Friday is a holiday where the commemorating of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His death at Cavalry is being recognized.
Senakulo – a Passion play that reenacts the happenings of Jesus’ carrying of the cross and crucifixion
Seven Last Words or Siete Palabras – At three in the afternoon, the people address and recite the seven last words of Jesus followed by a moment of silence to recognize Jesus’ death at the cross.
Procession of Statues – the holy procession consists of the different churches statues being carried and it passes through the town en route back to the church. It stops three times, to give way to the salubong or meeting which are: the meeting of Christ and Mary, the wiping of Jesus’ face by Veronica, and the encounter between Mary and Veronica.
Pabasa or The Read – The Pabasa is a night long affair where the Filipinos practice “Pasyon,” a long narrative of Christ’s life, passion, death and resurrection. They read it out loud in a song-like manner and it is usually done in groups where they take turns in reading.
