Originally known as Wu Maru, Uma Uma Ramen dates back to 1950 where it was established in Fukuoka, Japan. Now named Uma Uma, a word play on umami which means “tasty” in Japanese, this restaurant became very popular in Singapore, and is now acquiring a strong following in the Philippines for its healthy offering of ramen and yakitori.

Uma Uma takes pride of their 100% MSG-free ramen, which means that their dishes are only made with natural ingredients, only from pure umami. Also, it’s a Hakata-style ramen which very well explains the pork broth flavor brought in by tonkatsu stock. Pork bones are boiled for more than ten hours so that the natural flavors emerge without having to use unhealthy food additives.

Aside from ramen, Uma Uma also serves yakitori (skewered meat) and meaty gyoza to pair their ramen dishes with. They’re planning to add more things to their menu so watch out for other interesting ramen flavors to come out. It’s also important to note that their much-loved ramen offerings are based from a family recipe which has established the brand’s name for its unparalleled ramen taste that only Uma Uma can give.
