Founded in Tokyo in 1958, OOTOYA has grown from a humble restaurant into a globally loved brand with hundreds of locations around the world. Known for its dedication to washoku – traditional Japanese home-style cooking – OOTOYA has earned a loyal following worldwide for dishes that balance flavor, nutrition, and heart. From steaming hot teishoku (set meals) to slow-cooked specialties made with care, every OOTOYA meal feels like it was cooked in a Japanese home kitchen.

Now, Filipino diners can experience the same sense of comfort that has made OOTOYA a household name in Japan for decades.
At the heart of OOTOYA is its food philosophy: freshly prepared meals cooked from scratch, served as balanced set menus known as teishoku. Each meal typically includes steamed rice, miso soup, a main protein, and seasonal side dishes like homemade pickles.
One of their signature dishes is the Chicken Kurozu, featuring fried chicken and vegetables served with an original sweet and sour vinegar sauce that balances richness with acidity.

Those who are fond of seafood will definitely delight in OOTOYA’s Sima Hokke Sumibiyaki, a grilled atka mackerel served with grated radish.

Another recommended signature dish is the OOTOYA Teishoku, featuring a medley of three meats including pork, karaage (fried chicken), and ebi fry (breaded shrimp). The result is a satisfying and filling meal that offers variety in both flavor and texture, crispy, savory, and well-balanced, making it ideal for those who want to enjoy different favorites in one complete set.

Bonus: It might not be on their signature menu, but according to Chef Homaru Kimura, one of the best dishes OOTOYA has is the Beef Sukiyaki Hotpot, a Japanese traditional hotpot which contains thinly sliced beef and vegetables with a soy sauce based original sweet sukiyaki sauce in a hotpot.

Beyond its menu, Ootoya’s appeal lies in the calm, inviting atmosphere it creates. The restaurant is thoughtfully designed for family- and group-oriented dining, with two private dining rooms that can comfortably seat 10 people each, ideal for family gatherings and intimate celebrations.
