Where is Hakodate?
The city of Hakodate is located in the northern part of Japan and is one of the best tourist destinations in Hokkaido. It is an hour-long plane ride from the capital city, Tokyo, and about 4 hours via Shikansen (bullet train). Every year, over 1.5 million tourists flock the city of Hakodate to see the beautiful landscapes, visit historical buildings, and try delectable seafood dishes.
Transportation in Hakodate
Cars are considered as convenient modes of transportation for sightseeing in Hakodate. For ¥4000 to ¥5000, you can rent a car for a whole day use.
Tramcar
Streetcar or tramcar is another option to get around the prefecture. It runs every 6 to 12 minutes during the day and can take you to most of the main tourist spots. Fares cost between ¥200 to ¥250 per ride, or ¥600 for a one-day pass.You can also opt to take a bus. Information about bus routes can be found in front of Hakodate Station. Taxis are also convenient modes of transportation in Hakodate, but are rather expensive. If you are willing to pay for ¥16000 to charter a small car for 3 hours, then go ahead and splurge.
