  • Celebrate World Tiramisu Day or Any Other Day at Santis – Yakal
  • Celebrated on March 21, World Tiramisu Day honors one of Italy’s most cherished desserts. It was founded in 2017 by food writers Clara and Gigi Padovani, who authored a book detailing its history and various interpretations.

Tiramisu, which means “pick me up,” is loaded with rich ingredients like eggs, sugar, ladyfingers, mascarpone, coffee, and cocoa that makes this a decadent delight. It originated in Treviso in the 1800s where it was reputedly created in a rather unconventional setting, intended to energize and enchant!

So this World Tiramisu Day (or any other day), why not try making your own with the recipe from Santis Deli’s In-house Chef Chris Limbo? This is made with amaretto, perfect for adults who enjoy boozy desserts. Enjoy!

    Ingredients:
3/4 cup (200 ml) heavy cream
    5 tbsp sugar
    4 egg yolks
    1 lb (500 g) mascarpone
    24 ladyfingers (approx.)
    4 tbsp strong espresso coffee
    4 tbsp amaretto
    Cocoa powder

    Procedure:
    1. Beat the cream with 1 tablespoon of sugar until stiff.
    2. Whisk the egg yolks with the remaining sugar until creamy using a hand-held whisk on maximum speed.
    3. Stir in the mascarpone one spoonful at a time, and then, at a slower speed, stir in the cream.
    4. Line a flat dish with ladyfingers. Mix the espresso and Amaretto and sprinkle over the ladyfingers, but do not soak.
    5. Spread a layer of cream on top and cover this with a layer of ladyfingers, sprinkle with the espresso and amaretto mixture, and spread the remaining cream on top.
    6. Dust with cocoa powder and chill for at least one (1) hour in the refrigerator.
