Glico Philippines Unveils First Pocky-Inspired Playground in Manila
In the digital age, playing out under the sun has become less frequent as children often engage with games in front of their screens. Even when playing outdoors, children often lack access to safe and well-tended playgrounds, exposing them to various risks.
Thankfully, Glico Philippines, Inc. is bringing back the joy of outdoor fun and restoring the country’s culture of Filipino street games by unveiling their first Pocky-inspired playground in Brgy. Paraiso Delpan Street, San Nicolas, Metro Manila on July 22, 2024!

Now open to the 5,000 kids of the barangay, the SNAP OUT AND PLAY playground aims to bring people out of the digital world and into a vibrant environment, where active play is encouraged. Here, children can foster a sense of community and teamwork while engaging in physical activities that promote their overall wellbeing.

Once a neglected and unused space along Delpan Street near the highway, the playground has now transformed into a vibrant source of fun for many children in the area, thanks to Dentsu Creative Philippines, Inc., a partner of Glico Philippines, Inc. in “Sharing Happiness” with the community.

The playground features newly installed swings, slides, and climbing structures, perfect for active play among children who can also explore within a safe environment, thanks to the Pocky-inspired fences surrounding the playground.

During SNAP OUT AND PLAY’s unveiling, the rain did not deter the children from running with their friends as the playground also features outdoor artificial grass turf, where children can run barefoot, rain or shine.
More importantly, with the spacious playground now open to children, SNAP OUT AND PLAY preserves the fun Filipino culture by encouraging kids to play classic Filipino street games such as Luksong Tinik (jumping over thorns), Pick-up Sticks, Patintero (a game of tag), Piko (hopscotch), and more.
Wellbeing for Life
Giving the children a venue to play is one of the two things that are important to Glico’s Founder Ri-ichi Ezaki. According to Glico Philippines’ Marketing Manager, Vianz Badoy, part of Glico’s belief is to contribute back to society and enhance children’s wellbeing through snacks and play, making SNAP OUT AND PLAY the perfect venue to make this possible.

Glico Philippines Managing Director Gerald Mendoza also highlighted various initiatives Glico has undertaken throughout the years to support children’s wellbeing.
“Glico has been an advocate of health and wellness for over a hundred years already, and one of the biggest pillars would be the wellbeing of kids…In fact, the founder of the company, the first product he developed was Glico caramel to give nutrition to the kids. It’s a balance between nutrition and play,” Mendoza shared.
He also elaborated how Glico maximizes the health benefits of their snacks for children and their families.
“Pocky biscuit is the only chocolate-enrobed biscuit that has high-fiber content. Technically, one pack is equivalent to around one bowl of oatmeal in terms of fiber content…so it’s really high-fiber. In terms of product offering, we’re trying to maximize the health benefits for the people, not only for them to enjoy but also for them to improve their [wellbeing].”

Led by its well-loved confectionary brands such as Pocky, Pretz, and Pejoy, Glico has now expanded its portfolio to include ice cream products, baby formula, milk products, desserts, food ingredients, and raw materials for cosmetic and health.
Their recent addition to the Glico family, Almond Koka, has also proven to be a versatile product, as the plant-based drink can be paired with various meals and beverages.
