UNESCO Names Cebu as New Creative City of Design
In celebration of World Cities’ Day on October 31, United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) named Cebu City as one of the urban areas that are part of the Organization’s Network of Creative Cities.
Cebu’s wondrous views captivated the eyes of many, making it one of the Creative City of Designs with currently 246 members.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay pointed out that these cities value culture as the foundation of strategy, contributing to the political and social aspects of the country.
“All over the world, these cities, each in its way, make culture the pillar, not an accessory, of their strategy,” he said in a statement.
This is not the first time that the Philippines was named as such as Baguio also made it to the list back in 2017.

Other new members of the UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network include Asahikawa (Japan), Bangkok (Thailand), Havana (Cuba), Jinju (Republic of Korea), Bergamo (Italy), and many more. You may check the the full list here.

Established in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network seeks to unify cities that have been utilizing creativity as an effective instrument for sustainable urban development.
These cities believe in one common goal, which is to put creativity as an essential part of the development plans at the local level and continually become involved at the international level.
