  • Go Local: A List of Philippine-Produced Beer
  • Filipino-made beer comes from two breweries: San Miguel Brewery and Asia Brewery. There may be lots of names, but both come from these two, unless it’s craft beer (but that’s another story).

Here, we will list the most popular brands, along with their suggested retail price (SRP). No need to check as far as where you can get them, though: these brands can be found almost everywhere… even at your local sari-sari store (neighborhood variety store)

    1. San Miguel Pale Pilsen

The country’s most iconic beer, Pale Pilsen (Pilsen or SMB to its patrons) should never be left out. It’s been featured in dozens of commercials and is recognized globally as a world-class beer, winning a Gold award at the Monde Selection for three straight years (2013, 2014, and 2015). Most people say it’s best to drink this out of a bottle, which can be bought for P28 SRP.

    San Mig Light

The country’s leading low-calorie beer, San Mig Light, or SML, is the beer of choice for both women and the health-conscious social drinker. It’s popular among bar-hoppers since it’s not as heavy as SMB, and is usually available per bottle at P30 SRP.

    San Miguel Flavored Beer

A recent addition to San Miguel Brewery’s line, their flavored beer is slowly becoming the quintessential ladies’ drink. The first of its kind in the Philippines, it comes in 2 flavors: apple and lemon, both of which sell at P28 per bottle SRP.

    Red Horse Beer

Sometimes shortened to RH, this is the “tough guy” choice for beer. It has a very strong taste, the strongest out of all the beers on this list. It’s a favorite among those who like their beer with a kick. It sells for P29 per bottle SRP.

Fun fact: people always look for the “Happy Horse,” or a bottle of Red Horse with a smiling logo.

Note: Colt 45, Asia Brewery’s most popular brand, is actually a US beer sold by Asia Brewery.
