Holy Week Activities: Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, is a Christian holiday that falls on the Thursday before Easter. It is a day to commemorate that Last Supper of Jesus and the washing of the feet of the twelve apostles.
Last Supper Mass – The Last Supper Mass is the Catholic Mass celebrated on the evening of Holy Thursday. It inaugurates the Easter Triduum, and commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus and Him washing the feet of his apostles. This is the last mass before Easter.
Visita Iglesia or Church Visit – This is practiced by visiting 7 churches. Some visit 14 churches to symbolize the 14 Stations of the Cross.
Blessed Sacrament – The Blessed Sacrament is also referred to as the altar bread and wine. During holy week, it is displayed at the altar and the visitors or the participants of visita iglesia pray before it.
