  • A quaint restaurant in the Walled City, Patio de Conchita takes the carinderia concept to a whole new level.

    Charmingly located in an old Spanish house in Intramuros, its ambiance and cheap price have made it a favorite amongst workers, students, and even tourists around the area during lunch or dinner.

    Since opening in 1990, the process of ordering here is called turo-turo where customers point with their fingers which food they want on their plate. Patio de Conchita serves everyday Filipino dishes and with the myriad of choices, customers can keep coming back and get something new each time.

    Their menu is a flavorful celebration of Filipino cuisine. Among the starters, crowd-faves include Chicharon Bulaklak (Php 150), Fried Shrimp Okoy (Php 140), Sizzling Pork Sisig (Php 250), and the tangy Kilawin Tanigue (Php 380) or Filipino-style ceviche. Daring diners can try Dinakdakan (Php 280) or Adobong Isaw (Php 150), while lighter ones like Fried Tofu (Php 45) and Lumpiang Sariwa (Php 75) round out the lineup.

    For main courses, classic Filipino stews and entrees take the spotlight. There’s Pork Sinigang (Php 140), Sinigang na Bangus (Php 95), and Prawns Sinigang (Php 280), Beef Bulalo (Php 550) and Crispy Pata (Php 890). Must-try dishes include Beef Kare-Kare (Php 350), Lechon Kawali (Php 390), and the rich Mixed Seafood sa Gata (Php 380), an indulgent dish comprised of mussels, prawns, and squid in a coconut milk sauce.

    For Ala Carte, section offers affordable everyday favorites such as Pork Adobo, Pork Dinuguan, Bicol Express, and Menudo (Php 95 each). Unique items like Adobong Pusit (Php 280), Chicken Adobo with Egg (Php 130), and Pork Curry (Php 130). Vegetable dishes are also abundant and budget-friendly, with all priced at Php 50 – 60, including Laing, Gising-Gising, Adobong Kangkong, and Ensaladang Mangga.

    Must-try grilled items are Inihaw na Pusit, Inihaw na Tilapia, and Inihaw na Tuna Panga (seasonal market prices). There’s also Chicken Barbecue (Php 185) and Pork Barbecue (Php 130) for those looking for more street food-style fare.

    Note: During lunch, they offer budget meals consisting of an entree, a veggie side dish, a cup of rice, and a drink starting at Php 140.

    Patio de Conchita may not boast the same sophistication as the upscale establishments around Intramuros, but the cheap price tag and homey ambiance are the reasons why it has amassed countless patrons. Be sure to drop by at Patio de Conchita for a quick fix of Filipino food without burning a hole in your pocket!
