  • There’s a lot going on this weekend; we highly advise against staying in. From a bunch of film and music festivals to exhibits, expos, and more, events this weekend in Metro Manila are definitely worth ditching the couch!

    PELÍCULA-PELIKULA 2017: Manila Spanish Film Festival (ongoing until October 15)

    This weekend is your last chance to see the best Spanish and Latin American contemporary films at “Pelicula-Pelikula!” There are over 20 films that have been screening since the festival opened last October 5. This weekend, you still have the chance to see eight films! That includes Koblic, Al final del túnel, Tarde para la ira, and El ciudadano ilustre on Saturday, and La mano invisible, El bar, Premio del Publico, and La noche que mi madre mato a mi padre on Sunday.

    Tingin: ASEAN Film Festival (October 11 – 15)

    If you’re into something more Oriental, you can also check out the Southeast Asian films featured at “Tingin!” This free film festival, which runs from October 11 to 15, is screening movies with stories that represent ASEAN countries. This weekend, you can still watch films like Threefold Mirror: Reflections (Japanese), Kayan Beauties (Burmese), Jagat (Malaysian), Dearest Sister (Lao), and The Island Funeral (Thai).

    Spotlight Movie Box (October 14 – 15)

    Circuit Makati has partnered with ABS-CBN Sagip Pelikula to let film buffs experience Philippine cinema from the early 2000s again. See for yourself how films like One More Chance and Got 2 Believe caught the hearts of many fans and became one of the most unforgettable local films of all time.

    ManilaART 2017 (October 12 – 15)

    Take the time to see and appreciate the artistic prowess of prominent Filipino artists at ManilART, which is now in its eighth year. This year, the exhibition will put the spotlight on Mindanaoan artists and other works that highlight Mindanao.

    Attitude of the Mind (ongoing until December 3)

    The CCP celebrates the 100th birthday of National Artist for Music, Jose Maceda, through Attitude of the Mind, a two-month long exhibition that commemorates the life, works, and craft of the late artist. Through a collaborative effort, the exhibition will showcase an archival installation Maceda’s life and works, audio-visual installation, art installation, and robotic music installation.

    This weekend sure is full of final chances! If you haven’t watched the London West End’s The Sound of Music, it’s still running at the Theater at Solaire until Sunday. Echoing UK Sky News’, this one’s worth begging or even stealing a ticket.

    Drizzle United (October 14)

    If you’re a night owl and can’t find where else to channel your energy, channel it into partying at Drizzle United on Saturday night! Said to be one of the largest music fests in the country, the event will feature performances from top local DJs from different universities.

    AWCP Halloween Charity Party (October 14)

    If you’re up for some trick-or-treating, don your best Halloween costume and go to the American Women’s Club of the Philippines’ (AWCP) Halloween Charity Party. But instead of giving out candies to kids with pumpkin baskets, you will be helping the children at the Kalipay Negrense Foundation of Bacolod who have been rescued from the sex trade industry.

    Badu vs. Everything Tour (October 14)

    If you’re into soul and R&B, then the Sofitel Manila is the place you got to be on Saturday night. Get to watch Erykah Badu, best known as the queen of neo-soul and a Grammy-award winner. She just recently rocked Japan, and now it’s Manila’s turn!
