  • Artery Art Space is pleased to present “Inner Weather” featuring works by Jem Magbanua, primarily reflecting on the poetics of space – where the surrounding nuances are symbolic of individual subjectivity, states of mind and soul, variations on site become catalysts for change; the color blue, which dominates the works in the exhibition, are forays into the unknown that represent the boundless human imagination and frontier spirit.

Using a more painterly gestural approach to these larger expanses of space, Magbanua pushes her pictorial compositions with fractured placements of various landscape elements that seem to disengage our perceptions of time and material, providing her audience with an inspired combination of poetry and analytical study.  At the same time, she offers a critical awareness of nature beholden as a conceptual construct on matters of the sublime that produce a spectacle, in relation to our experiences out in the wild so to speak, and consequently, the landscape being a space of conquest and ownership.
