In the proclamation held at the Philippine International Convention Center, 12 new senators of the 17th Philippine congress have been officially declared on Wednesday (May 18) afternoon. Garnering 18,607,391 votes is Franklin Drilon, who topped this year’s senatorial race. He is followed by Joel Villanueva, who was the then director general of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), who got 18,459,222 votes. Third on the list is Vicente Sotto III, who has served two terms in the senate before. Sotto got 17,200,371 votes. On the fourth spot is reelected senator Panfilo Lacson, who got 16,926,152 votes. In relation to the nearing resume of classes in the Philippines this June, the Department of Education (DepED) has now released the official school calendar for year 2016 to 2017. According to the calendar, the official start of classes will be on June 13, 2016 and will end on April 7 the following year. The school year will have a total of 202 school days, which includes the five-day in-service training break.
