  • In celebration of World Pasta Day, Barilla, the world’s leading pasta brand, collaborates with Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City to create the biggest nutritious pasta dish on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, for the street children beneficiaries of Red Cross Philippines.

    During the celebration, Barilla Executive Chef Andrea Tranchero and Marriott Executive Chef Meik Brammer, together with his culinary team, joined forces to prepare a giant pasta dish, with the help of Barilla’s partner distributor in the Philippines, Werdenberg International Corporation, and the leading deli shop in the country, Santis Delicatessen.

    Four cooking stations were set in place at the ballroom of Manila Marriott Hotel, where the Philippine World Pasta Winners from Barilla’s Chef Contest 2023 prepared and presented their winning pasta dishes.

    Among the pasta dishes prepared were Vegan Spaghetti and Meatballs by Sous Chef Joana Tiglao, Spaghetti Tossed in Bouillabaisse Sauce with Scallops and Tiger Prawns by Chef de Partie Rose Ann Adarlo, Scampi by Sous Chef Rheevo Arauco, and Pampanga’s Sisig Pasta by Chef Erwin Marquez.

    The Chef Contest 2023 was organized by Barilla back in September for chefs in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines to introduce their very own pasta creations.

    With the contest ending on October 5, Barilla granted vouchers worth $100 to six (6) victorious chefs in the Philippines and a trip to Italy to participate in a three-day exclusive masterclass at Academia Barilla in Parma, Italy, for the grand prize winner.

    The awards were given to the winning chefs after the presentation, hailing Chef Erwin Marquez as the grand prize winner.

    Compassion to Communities

    The World Pasta winners from the Philippines were among the chefs to prepare the biggest pasta dish for the beneficiaries of Red Cross’ Feeding Program.

    “Our mission is clear—to ensure that every Filipino has access to good, nutritious food. It’s not just responsibility; it’s a shared vision. Together, we can make a difference that truly matters,” said Werner Berger, president and CEO of Santis Delicatessen.

    Among those who shared his vision is Barilla Executive Chef Andrea Tranchero, who has passionately advocated for the health benefits of pasta and how Barilla plays a crucial role in creating sustainable, nutritious, and satisfying meals. Echoing Berger’s statement, Chef Tranchero believes that “nutritious food should be accessible to everyone, and this event is a step toward achieving that goal”.

    As the executive chef of Manila Marriott Hotel, Chef Meik Brammer said he is honored to collaborate with Barilla for the World Pasta Day. According to Chef Brammer, “We are passionate about giving back to the communities we serve, and this event exemplifies our dedication to making a positive impact.”

    Together with Chef Tranchero, Chef Brammer highlighted Manila Marriott Hotel’s journey in sustainable food production and emphasized every chef’s role in teaching the children to be conscious of the world.

    Five hundred (500) portions of nutritious pasta dishes will be given to the street kids who have been beneficiaries of Red Cross Philippines over the years. The World Pasta Day highlights the profound effect of collaboration and compassion in the upliftment of communities especially the underprivileged in the country.

    The World Pasta Day was organized by Barilla in partnership with Manila Marriott Hotel, Werdernberg International Corporation, and Santis Delicatessen, Barilla’s partner distributor in the Philippines. Santis Delicatessen has branches in Quezon City, San Juan, Makati, Pasig, Bonifacio Global City, Alabang, Laguna, Cavite, and Batangas.
