DOT and iAcademy Launch Experience Philippine App
The Department of Tourism (DOT) and iAcademy launch the latest Philippine travel companion, Experience Philippines. The mobile phone application features augmented reality (AR) images of historical sites.
“With the Experience Philippines app, tourists can relive the past of Intramuros city with just a tap on their mobile phone screens,” says DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat. The app is now available on Google Play or the App Store for free.
A work in progress, the AR feature currently works only on the DOT logo and certain sites in Intramuros, Manila including the Fort Santiago Gate, the Manila Cathedral, and San Agustin Church. The AR is activated by tapping on the “ARTech” feature and pointing the camera at the tourist site.

DOT says the app serves as a compact version of www.philippines.travel, the department’s latest tourism website which allows tourists to learn and explore their dream travel destinations online as well as plan and book with DOT-accredited tour operators and establishments.
Users can expect the app to update in the next few months to add other tourist sites in Banaue Rice Terraces, Corregidor, Mt. Samat, Puerto Princesa, Pampanga and Mt. Pinatubo.
Information and Communications Technology Academy, better known as iAcademy is a private school in Makati that offers specialized courses on computing, business, and design.
