  • The National Commission for the Culture and Arts (NCCA) and spearheaded by their Subcommission on the Arts (SCA) launches the Ani ng Sining: Philippine Arts Festival, for the annual celebration of National Arts Month this February 2020.

    The National Arts Month is celebrated every month of February under the Presidential Proclamation No. 663 signed in 1991 where the “… disciplines of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, architecture, literature, media arts, and film need to be preserved, enriched…”

    For the year 2020, NCCA is pushing forward the following objectives:

    1. showcase artistic expressions and works of local communities,
    2. promote the unique identity and values of the community,
    3. rally local government support for community arts and cultural programs,
    4. provide opportunities for harnessing and strengthening the local artists,
    5. and documenting artworks.

    The 2020 Philippine Arts Festival launched on February 1, 2020 at Rizal Park in Manila with free workshops, performances, short film screening, and announcements. They also launched the event series in Valenzuela, Puerto Princesa, and Ormoc.

    While there are many National Arts Month activities scheduled around the country with locations such as Ormoc, Cebu, Davao, and Dumaguete, we are listing down the events in the Metro Manila, NCR as well as other art-related events!

    Art MADE Public 2020: SPECTRUM

    The Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) joins the NCCA calendar of events with their Art MADE Public series of traveling lectures and exhibitions. They are also holding a Recognition Program for Painting and Sculpture granting Php 500,000 worth of financial assistance for grant awardees.

    The first leg of the Art MADE Public 2020: SPECTRUM series of events is happening now at S’Maison, Pasay City until Feb 7. Admission is free.

    In collaboration with NCCA, Rakrakan 2020 features simultaneous performances from over 120 local musicians on 6 stages. With live-art exhibitions, merchandise booths, food stalls, and other activities, this is an event you shouldn’t miss!

    Art Fair Philippines 2020 will once again showcase its great line up of artists and imaginative paintings to strengthen the local art scene and to support Filipino artists. Catch it on February 21 to 23 at The Link, Makati City. Admission is Php 350 with discounts for PWD, senior citizens, and students.

    ALT Philippines, a pioneering collaborative project of 10 art galleries, is set to present over 150 contemporary Filipino artists to revitalize the local art scene.

    Be a part of Komiket, the biggest local comics and art market where local artists and enthusiasts gather to appreciate their love for Filipino comics. This year is said to feature over 700 artists, makers, calligraphers, publishers, and illustrators!

    Komiket 2020 happening on February 8 to 9 at Megatrade Hall 2, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. Admission is Php 100 for a one-day pass and Php 150 for a two-day pass.
