  • It’s the New Year and what better way to start off 2020 than with some binge-worthy shows that will surely help you start the year right.

    True enough, 2019 was an amazing year of shows on Netflix and January is looking to be a good start to the year. Here’s a quick rundown of shows coming to Netflix this month!

    The Last Empress

    The Last Empress is a 2018 Korean drama that takes place in a hypothetical constitutional monarchy. It follows the life of Sunny Oh, a musical actress who marries the Korean Empire’s Emperor. As Sunny adjusts to her palace life, she finds herself searching for true love and happiness while getting entangled in an unfortunate string of events that ultimately leads to the demise of the imperial family.

    Titans: Season 2

    The second season of Titans highlights the official reformation of the group. Led by Dick Grayson, the group is now composed of Rachel Roth, Garfield “Gar” Logan”, and Jason Todd.

    Their return, however, also leads to the return of Deathstroke, a feared assassin who caused the disbandment of the original Titans. As the original Titans face Deathstroke, other threats start to rise, including Kory Anders’s younger sister, Blackfire.

    Leslie Jones: Time Machine

    Witness the Emmy Award-nominated actress, comedian, and SNL alum Leslie Jones as she shares her hilarious wisdom in this Netflix Special. Time Machine is Jones’ first Netflix Special that traces her evolution as an adult—from trying to seduce Prince to battling sleep apnea, this funny special will surely give you something to laugh about!

    The Good Place: Season 3

    In the third season of The Good Place, the deceased Eleanor wakes up in the afterlife and is welcomed to “The Good Place” to reward her for her righteous life.

    However, she soon discovers that her “Good Place” is a hoax and in truth, she is in the “Bad Place”. The season explores how deceased humans return to life on Earth in order to allow them to improve morally.

    Great Teacher Onizuka: Season 1

    Great Teacher Onizuka is a popular Japanese anime adapted from the manga series of the same name. The story centers on Eikichi Onizuka, a teacher at the Holy Forest Academy who is actually a former member of a biker gang.

    The series focuses on Onizuka’s journey to become “the greatest teacher” with is own brand of philosophy and a strong sense of morality. Along with his students, Onizuka goes on a mission of self-discovery by helping his students overcome their own problems and teaching them how to truly enjoy life.

    A Fall From Grace

    Nobody knows St. Louis better than Detective Michael Tabb—however, despite that, he is clueless about the identity of a killer. As he lives in the darkness, Tabb self-medicates to ward away and embrace the killer, allowing himself to fall farther from the light.

    In reality, the closer that he comes to death by his own hand, the closer he gets to solving the murders.

    The Queen

    The Queen is a 2006 biopic that follows the events after the death of Princess Diana. The Queen and her family decide that it would be of best interest that they stay behind the doors of Balmoral Castle.

    The heartbroken public requests that the Queen comforts her people in these trying times. This ultimately puts pressure on Tony Blair, the newly elected Prime Minister who constantly tries to convince the monarchy to heed the cries of the public.

    Cast: Helen Mirren, Michael Sheen, James Cromwell

    Country Song

    This 2010 film follows Beau Hutton, a rising country songwriter who falls for Kelly Canter, a fallen star. Together, the two mount the rise of their careers, which unfortunately leads to romantic complications that involve Kelly’s husband and manager, James and Chiles Stanton, a beauty queen-turned-singer.

    Ragnarok

    Ragnarok is a Netflix Original set in the small Norwegian town of Edda. Rooted in Norse Mythology, this drama is set in the fictional town of Edda in the enthralling Norwegian countryside.

    This coming-of-age drama not only gives a surprising new angle on Norse Mythology but also tackles more relevant issues such as climate change.
