Following its numerous nominations dating back to 2006, the Philippines was officially recognized as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination by the 2019 World Travel Awards for Asia and Oceania.

Since 2006, the Philippines has been nominated in the award categories of Asia’s Leading Dive Destination as well as World’s Leading Dive Destination—but only now was it recognized as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination.
According to the DOT, the country’s dive tourism is among the areas in the National Tourism Development Plan 2016 to 2022 that are expected to play a role in increasing visitor count, extending lengths of stay, and boosting tourism revenue among others.

The DOT is head-on in promoting a Philippine dive tourism that is founded on sustainability and inclusivity.
This is one of the many reasons why—apart from Asia’s Leading Dive Destination—the DOT was esteemed as Asia’s Leading Tourism Board as well.
The DOT received such recognition by virtue of the year-on-year increase in the country’s international inbound traffic amounting to 14.08 percent or a total of 5,554,950 visitors between January and August 2019. This paved the way for them to top the 11 other nominated boards from different countries.
