  • The anticipated national art fair ManilART is here again to introduce the country’s rich story expressed through visual arts. 

    During the press conference held last September 20ManilART discussed that this year will highlight on “Showcasing the Global Filipino Artist,” aligned with the National Commission for Culture and Arts 2019 theme for Museums and Galleries Month, “Building a Nation, One Exhibit at a Time.”

    The press conference was attended by individuals from different media companies. It was initiated with the opening remarks from Fort Bonifacio Chairman George Bocobo, mentioning that Taguig has been part of the art fair for seven years now.

    Head of NCCA’s Cultural Heritage Section Lawrence Charles Salazar, meanwhile, shared the cultural activities for the museum and galleries. These include regional art fairs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to promote the country’s rich culture.

    They are also holding MindanaoArt, encouraging artists from Mindanao to develop a brand of their own art fair.

    Further, Salazar pointed out the art fair’s vital role to the youth. “I’d like to underscore the importance of having art fairs especially in the light of education. It provides learning opportunity to the students and I’m so much delighted that ManilART expanded towards providing opportunities to the public,” he explained.

    The program ended with a comprehensive talk from ManilART Fair Director Tess Rayos Del Sol, elaborating this year’s curated activities.

     

    Activities to look forward in ManilART 2019

    Public school students will get a chance to have a free walking tour with the help of the ManilART team, while teachers will have a seminar by Prof. Gerry Leonardo of Philippine High School for the Arts. 

    ManilART, in coordination with Manila Bulletin, also aims to serve humanity. Hence, they are hosting the Art of Red, a yearly fundraising event of the Philippine Red Cross

    Additionally, ManilART collaborated with Zonta Club Women’s Group to host a film screening of Patay Na Si Jesus (2016), including a Q&A session with its screenwriter and producer, Moira Lang. The film will be in Cebuano language for people to appreciate the diverse Philippine language.

    The government body also contributed to this annual celebration as the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage of the NCCA will conduct a Heritage Night with different cultural institutions involved in celebrating Museums and Galleries Month.

    For photography enthusiasts, expect a talk by Nikon Ambassadors with an aim of teaching the youth new techniques and tactics in the photography field.

    Of course, you will also witness the amazing talent of notable Filipinos by watching performances and sketching sessions of renowned visual artists.

     

    Finally, the art fair will feature artworks created by 13 prominent Filipino artists namely Ramon Orlina, Romula Galicano, Susanito Sarnate, Anthony Palomo, Marge Organo, Kenneth Montegrande, Kublai Millan, Agi Pagkatipunan, Danny Rayos Del Sol, Riza Muyot, JP Pining, and Wilfredo Offemaria. 

    Make sure to catch Filipino’s best artworks in the upcoming ManilART 2019, which will run from October 9 to 13 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City
