On March 8, Manila Water cited ‘continued decline in the water level at La Mesa Dam’ as the cause for the low pressure and water interruptions. Manila Water will be prioritizing supply to hospitals and schools but will deploy tankers to deliver water to households and commercial establishments.
The country is currently experiencing a weak El Niño until the month of May according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). El Niño is characterized by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific.
West Zone concessionaire, Maynilad Water Services will be giving an additional supply of water to Manila Water during the weal El Niño. PAGASA forecasts rain may return in May, while rainfall is expected to become near normal from June to August.
