#NextPH prompted a “virtual passing of the baton and changing of the guard,” which aims to shift the focus on the digital natives of today’s generation. Netizens and the young generation were encouraged to use social media and the web more responsibly.

The event was hosted by Michelle Manese, a spoken word poet, and Mark Ghosn, a spoken word artist who is recently known for his very witty “Kris as…” written monologue series on social media.

DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo and Philippine Leader of Livestrong Foundation Dr. Gia Santos graced the event as the keynote speakers. Sec. Taguiwalo tackled compassion and social good, while Dr. Santos talked about mental health issues.

Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) Commissioner Maisara Damdamun-Latiph shared a historical context of the Bangsamoro conflict and her hopes that “the tyranny of underdevelopment will be addressed by the Bangsamoro Basic Law.”

The short film “Nakaw” was also played during the event, followed by a film panel with the directors of the film, Noel Escondo and Arvin Belarmino, joined by another filmmaker Wanggo Gallaga.

Other speakers who shared their insights and educational bits were Ridvan Baluyos (Senior Software Engineer, OLX), Toto Madayag (web comic artist, Libreng Komiks), Phil Smithson (Design Thinking Specialist), Chichi Tullao (Happy Tummy Travels), Jezelle Ong (Social Media Professional, A Space Philippines), Nash Tysmans (writer, teacher and community worker), and  Heidi Garayblas (Business Unit head, freenet by Voyager).

There were also performances from SoundCloud artists Collaboratory and improv group Spit.

By the end of the event, iPhones were given away by Voyager and PayMaya in a raffle draw.
