  • Internationally acclaimed designers Stanley Ruiz and Nelson Sepulveda return to Manila FAME to showcase their intricate designs in masterpieces made by Philippine companies. The three-day event will run on April 21-23, 2017 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila and Philippine Trade Training Center, both in Pasay City.

In collaboration with the Design Center of the Philippines and local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Ruiz turns architectural by-products into works of art to build the ‘Lucent Objects’ setting while Sepulveda used indigenous materials for the ‘New Generation Weaves’ set.

Ruiz is a Multi-awarded international designer designer and the creative director of Estudio Ruiz Design Consultancy, a design studio he founded after working in Bali in Indonesia and New York City. He is known with his way of manipulating fossilized ‘peepal’ leaves, corn husks, peanut shells, mulberry bark, pandan pith, bakong fiber, and rice hull in creating his holiday-inspired lamps and lights. His special setting is the result of several months of experimentation with said materials and with turning these materials into lighting objects. This year will be his eight involvement in Manila FAME as a product specialist, assisting Philippine manufacturers in creating globally competitive and export-quality products.

Sepulveda, meanwhile, helps develop the designs for Philippine handcrafted baskets using natural materials. His return to Manila FAME, now on its 65th edition, is a prelude to his plans for October’s edition, where he will showcase installations that have a “sensorial approach to awaken man’s inborn link with nature” and that “can reach deep into the subconscious and fulfil man’s innermost desires.” He began his career as a makeup artist and consultant for major cosmetic brands. He was later named art director of Bloom magazine, which writes about how nature, flowers, and plants impact design. Since then, he has built several collections for different world-class design brands, like Ay Illuminate, ABC Pottery, and Cinq Etoiles.

Organized by the Center for International Trade and Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Manila FAME is the second longest running trade show in the Asia-Pacific. It is also the only trade event in the Philippines approved by Union des Foires Internationales, a Paris-based association of trade fairs organizers founded 90 years ago in Italy.

Manila FAME is a bi-annual business sourcing platform of export ready and finely crafted furniture and home furnishings, holiday gifts and décor, and fashion accessories. It showcases the best of Philippine design and craftsmanship. For more information, please visit manilafame.com
