  • First eco-school building in PH to be erected in Tarlac
  • Last time we wrote about James Jao, he was putting up Eco houses in different parts of the country. At the time, he also had two other projects lined up: eco-schools in Bohol and Tarlac.  Well, one of those is almost done, as the College of Holy Spirit (CHS) academic building in Tarlac is nearing completion.

Jao, an advocate and pioneer of eco-architecture and sustainable development in the country, posted an update on his latest project.

He won the design bid for the CHS academic building early last year, beating out four other contenders.

In an report from news website Sun.Star, Sister Teresita Artitia, SSpS, Community Leader at CHS-Tarlac said they nerver had plans to turn the academic building into an eco-school building. “However, when Architect Jao presented his design, we realized that it reflects the thrust of our congregation – that all our apostolate wherever we are, may it be schools or hospitals, we would integrate the care for Mother Earth.”

Eco-architecture fits perfectly in the Philippines as the country is often buffeted by intense typhoons and drastic changes in temperature. James Jao is the country’s foremost expert on eco-architecture who’s been designing eco-friendly homes since 2009.

His designs revolve around eco-friendly concepts such as consuming less energy for indoor climate control and reducing a building’s carbon footprint. He achieves this through the use of sustainable materials and designs that make full use of what the environment can provide.
