Hello, Waterloo: PH’s Tourism department takes over London
As part of their Visit Philippines 2016 again campaign, the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) took over the London Waterloo railway station by inviting Londoners to see and explore the places that make it more fun in the Philippines.
The said campaign which launched a Station Domination series began with the London Waterloo Station, which is Britain’s busiest railway station by passenger usage. This series started from April 24 to May 23, 2016 and it features a “special immersion zone” which gives the commuters a chance to taste and feel Philippines’ beauty and “a promise of more fun overall experience” when they travel to the Philippines.
Commuters had a chance to win a holiday trip to the Philippines in three ways: one was by taking a foot selfie at the floor stickers around the station’s concourse, second was by taking part in a 3D selfie stand, and third was through virtual reality pods with 360 images of Philippine islands. Commuters also received instant prizes during the month-long campaign.
This campaign also featured PH branding presence at the Waterloo station’s large motion digital screen which is considered to be Europe’s largest digital motion display. The Station Domination project was also reported to be seen by some 8.4 million commuters and was able to reach over 1.2 million Facebook users.
According to Gerard O. Panga, Tourism Attaché and Director for Northern and Southern Europe, “The tourist arrival to the Philippines for 2016 has already reached record numbers this year, growing by over 20% in February alone.” Also, he added that with a variety of cultural and musical events, there are many reasons to keep coming back to the Philippines.
