SubVerso Bookfair 2016: A Gathering of Artists
A PILE OF TREASURE. Tons of books to choose from in the SubVerso Bookfair.
The unassuming space of The Collective last January 16, 2016 became the place for artistic souls whose love for books and the evolving art form called spoken word poetry had tied them together with independent publishers, booksellers and literary groups.
GRUNGE UNDERGROUND. Surreal murals that belong to the realm of dreams.
The Collective is a hidden gem in the outskirts of Makati, reminiscent of a Seattle grunge underground venue where the streets and art intersect. Coupled with the book fair is an open mic where voices of both the amateur and experienced artists of spoken word aired their grievances about love, and life in general.
A CATALOGUE OF RARE BOOKS. One of the booksellers with books about politics.
One of exhibitors, Dagitabph with its name meaning “sparks”, lived up to its name with its teal typewriter, inviting visitors of the fair to type their own impromptu stories to be included in their Subversive 1.0 anthology, promoting the irreplaceable value of the printed word.
Co-organized with other groups keen on promoting the Filipino reading culture from all walks of life such as Kanto, Wabi Sabi, Aloha Bar, UkePH, Books Will Save the World, and No-Icons, the love for books will not end with the curtain call of the SubVerso Bookfair. Rather, it was the spark needed to inspire a revolution.
