GrabBike May Soon Serve the Public
A faster option to outsmart the heavy traffic in Metro Manila is currently being tested and reviewed and may soon provide people with an alternative means of transportation other than the four-wheeled vehicles. The taxi booking service app GrabTaxi is now beta testing a motorbike taxi service called GrabBike in Makati and Bonifacio Global City.
Here’s a fast rundown of the details about the proposed service:
– Base fare: P40. With an additional P10 per kilometers for the first 2 to 7 kilometers, and an additional of P5 per kilometer after 8 kilometers.
– Fare will not exceed P50 if the trip is within Makati City only.
-GrabBike riders are provided with a helmet, hairnet and face mask. Raincoats are also provided in case of rainfall.
-Both passengers and drivers of the service are insured. Motorcycle drivers are required to undergo training.
-For safety reasons, passengers wearing skirts are not allowed to book a trip.
-Proper rider attire and specific motorcycle units are required by GrabBike.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it is still studying if the new motorbike taxi service is under the rules governing Transport Network Companies (TNC).
GrabTaxi Philippines said it is currently talking with the LTFRB as regards policies and authorization.
GrabTaxi has a certificate of accreditation given by LTFRB for its taxi and private car services but none yet for the motorbike service.
Grab Taxi provides services in the country’s key cities like Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod and Baguio and has fast become a convenient alternative means patronized by the riding public.
GrabBike is currently operating in other Asian key cities like Bangkok and Jakarta.
