Of Thrones and Tiaras: An Evening of Opera and Musical Theater Royalty is an event by OperaJuan, happening on December 8 and 9, 2018, 5 p.m. at the Manila Pianos, Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City.
The event is an intimate musical production that is composed of excerpts of masterpieces from opera and musical theatre, including La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Cendrillon, Wicked, Into the Woods, and Dear Evan Hansen, to name a few. These pieces have relatively attained a “royal” status in their genres, or were sung by a character who had a royal status.
Act one showcases the traditional way of performing opera masterpieces that are incorporated with contemporary staging, with excerpts that will be performed in a blackbox stage setting.
Meanwhile, act two is composed of pieces from musical theater productions that are tied together in one storyline. The artists’ talent and singing prowess will be the focus of the company, using the intimate and bare blackbox setting as opposed to showcasing an extravagant production.

The production aims to show their audience how the definition of royalty has changed over the years.
From “something related to the bloodline”, now they define it as–even though they are of royal decent–“still human”. The show promises a night filled with timeless arias, ensemble pieces, and a heartwarming story that revolves around four princesses. It will surely be an evening full of laughter, romance, heartbreak, and acceptance.
Considered as OperaJuan’s soft launch, Of Thrones and Tiaras features a selection of the best young artists from the opera and musical theatre scene.
